Rasters are coming (finally)!!!!

We’re happy to announce an upcoming project that’s very long overdue.

In the near future, we will be moving our existing JPEG illustrations from under their current categorization as ‘Photos’ to ‘Illustrations’. This includes any artwork that isn’t vector-based: Drawings, paintings, collages, digital paintings, and so on.

This has been a much-requested feature for a very long time and we’re thrilled that it will soon be coming to iStock.

We know there will be a lot of questions so we’ve prepared an initial FAQ. We will have more information once this project launches so please stay tuned.

Daily Illustration 10-31-12

I’m definitely glad my month-long Daily Illustration project is over. I’ve learned that I’m not the kind of illustrator who can sit down every single day to work, especially on weeknights after coming home from my full time job!

I much prefer to work in spurts by putting aside an afternoon on the weekend to churn out vectors. To give you an idea, there were 31 days in October, but by the end of the month I have uploaded a total of nearly 400 files (admittedly, there are a lot of similar files in that total). I’d sit down for one afternoon and be able to easily knock out 30 files, but trying to draw just one after a long 10 hour work day was really a struggle.

I definitely won’t commit to daily uploads in the future, but, I will try to post more of my work as I finish it!

Today I drew some neon ‘Cocktail Lounge’ signs. I didn’t use any gradients: I did experiment a little with glows and blurs but didn’t like how bloated the file size got.

I chose another food item from the random noun generator. Oddly enough, I got ‘quince’ twice before ‘okra’ popped up – ‘Quince’ was the word two days ago. I’m thinking the noun randomizer isn’t quite as random as it claims…

Today I went back to the random noun generator and ended up with ‘Panda’. So I created a super simple panda icon. I also managed to squeeze in some infographics.

Today I worked on a couple more antique bottles, one for a liniment (for ‘man and beast!’) and another for hair and skin lotion.

Today I indulged in my love of vintage typography to make two antique bottles, one for a cough syrup and the other for a beauty cream.

Whew, past the halfway point. I’m finding it hard to sit down each night to work because I’m pretty busy these days! Hopefully I can crank out something that’s not so simplistic by the end of the month. Today’s vector is a simple piggy bank.
