Welcome to Bortonia’s Vector Blog

For years now, I’ve been thinking about blogging about vectors. Why? Because they’re awesome. I fell in love with them years ago and through sheer determination I now get paid to look at them every day (at my job at iStockphoto.com). There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing with my life.

By no means am I a vector master. But I have learned a few tips and tricks over the years that I really, really wish I’d known when I started. There’s a very steep learning curve for vectors, especially for anyone who’s used to ‘traditional’ mediums (paints, pencils, ink, etc). I’d like to try and offer some advice on how you can take the plunge and move from mediums everyone has heard of to one that almost no one has heard of.

What I hope to do is share a few tips and tricks of my own, as well as introduce you to some of the other absolutely fantastic vector blogs, tutorials, and portfolios already online. I’m continually finding great new resources online and I hope to gather them all here over time.

Why did it take me so long to start this blog? Well, recently there’s been an influx of top-of-the-line tutorials and vector sites out there. Back in ‘the day’ there was almost nothing. Seeing what everyone else is doing has inspired me to pitch in and hopefully contribute to the vector community at large. I’m also hoping that by posting tutorials, it’ll get me off my lazy butt and illustrate more and experiment with new techniques.

If you have anything you’d like to contribute please feel free to let me know! I’m always on the lookout for new stuff online.

I’m really glad you started this blog. I love your work and the way your organise your tutorials and other articles is pretty neat, love that!

    Keep it comin!

You are right about the influx of all the top-of-the-line tutorials around the web, but sometimes the REAL top tutorials are the one explained simply but completely.

    Have a nice day.
