How to close open shapes in CS6

I’ve had quite a few people ask me lately if there’s a plugin that can select open shapes in CS6. Most of us used Graffix’s excellent plugins, but as he notes on his website, he hasn’t been able to finish the plugin for AI CS6 yet.

Having moved to CS6 at home recently, I’ve been using a script from VectorBoom on my files. You can find the download link towards the bottom of this tutorial (scroll down), though make sure you read the tutorial too, it’s got some great tips on closing shapes! And while on the site, check out their other excellent scripts and plugins. They offer tons of time-saving shortcuts for free.

So far I find the VectorBoom script works very well. It took me a while to get used to going to the ‘Scripts’ menu instead of the ‘Select’ menu, but you catch on pretty quickly. Be careful if you have a really complex file (for example, a highly detailed grunge texture): The script checks all shapes in a file so it can take some time when run on lots of details.

Happy vectoring!
